FAQs

How can I come into the library?

You may enter the library either 1) with a class, when your teacher has signed up ahead of time; 2) with a library pass obtained by a librarian (a "purple pass") either before school or during the break, space allowing; or 3) with a pass from a teacher.

May I come to the library during my lunch?

Yes, you may.  You will need to obtain a lunch pass from the librarians.

Can I eat/drink/have snacks in the library?

The Hawley Library is the only high school in the state that allows food and drink in the library.  In order to maintain this unique status, it is important that everyone remember to dispose properly of all food items, wrappers, etc. before leaving the library.  Please recycle all bottles, cans, and paper.

How do I check out library materials?

You will need a WHS  ID card or a copy of your schedule in order to check out library materials.  Your ID number alone is not sufficient.  This rule is for your protection.

If I bring a book/AV equipment back late, is there a fine?

The Hawley Library does not charge late fees.

I lost an item that I checked out of the library.  What do I do?

You are responsible for any items checked out in your name, and the library will need to be reimbursed for lost items.  You may pay the library the cost of the item, or purchase a like copy/item on your own.

What will happen to me if I don't return or reimburse for library material?

You will not be allowed to check out library material; you will not receive your report card; your parking privileges may be revoked and you may not be allowed to participate in school sports.  If you are a graduating senior, you will be unable to walk at the graduation ceremony.

I forgot my password for my WHS student account.  What do I do?

Come to the front desk at the library.  We will allow you to reset your password.

I need a student email account.  How do I get one?

Come to the library for an email form.  Bring it home and fill it out completely; sign it and have your parent or guardian sign it.  Return the form to the library and we will have you up an running with an email account generally within the hour.

Can I access my gmail, Yahoo, or other non-school email account from school?

No, you cannot; those sites are blocked.

I worked on a document at home and need to bring it to school.  How do I do that?

You can email the document to your WHS account, or save it to a flash drive or CD.

I need to do a project.  Do you have supplies at the library?

Yes.  We have assorted color papers, scissors, markers, glue sticks, tape, staplers, three-hole punch, and paper clips.  We also have magazines from which you can cut pictures, and note cards.
