Application for Free or Reduced Lunches
You can apply for assistance with breakfasts and lunches at any time of year. If your circumstances change just fill out the Application for Free or Reduced Lunch and return it to your food service director. As always, this information is confidential.
Eat Fresh
Winnacunnet’s dining services offers local foods to students when possible. Fruit from Applecrest, sausage and other meats from Kellie Brook Farm, to name a few. A variety of fresh fruits and salads are served daily. Almost all of our hot veggies are fresh or frozen. Homemade soup is made every day from October to April and sometimes longer. Occasionally time allows us to treat the students to a homemade wholegrain breakfast item, such a blueberry scones or cinnamon rolls, whipped up by Chef Ed.
Every effort is made to give the students the best possible meal for their money, and the staff is always coming up with new and creative ideas.
Nutritional Guidelines
Every breakfast and lunch served meets or beats the nutritional requirements set by the federal government. For students at the high school level, this means breakfast contains a bread, sometimes a protein, and a fruit along with milk. Lunches contain protein, a bread (starch), veggies, fruit and milk. These items are offered, but not always taken. However, students at Winnacunnet have very sophisticated palates and generally make very healthy choices.
Hidden Healthies
Foods at WHS have been healthy and enhanced for at least 10 years, and will continue to be in the future. Pasta and breads, including pizza crusts, honey buns, and tortillas are whole grain. Even the notorious chicken patty or nugget is now coated with whole grains and are low fat. We make our own granola to top our fruit and yogurt parfaits which are a big hit. Grated carrots, celery, onions and red and green peppers are added to many homemade foods to boost the nutrients.
Student Accounts
Each student at WHS has their own food service account, accessed with their 6 digit student ID number. This is a debit, not a charge system. Parents or students may make deposits in cash, checks made out to WHS Food Services, including student ID number or online at MyLunchMoney.com. Checks can also be mailed to Winnacunnet High School, 1 Alumni Drive, Hampton, NH 03842, attn:Trish. Checks or cash are given directly to cashiers as students pass through the serving lines.
MyLunchMoney.com provides a quick and convenient way to put money into an account, using a credit or debit card for a small fee. All parents can set up an account to check their student’s balance at any time, even if they choose to not use this service. A link is provided on our home page.
Unlike elementary schools, we do not separate cash into different uses, (milk, meal, snacks) All cash goes into the ‘cash account’ and students spend as they choose. Although we prefer student’s swipe their ID card at the register, most choose to enter their 6 digit number on a PIN pad.
We allow students to charge up to $4.60 worth of meals only (2 lunches). They can check their balance any time they go through a line, or on line at MyLunchMoney.com. A la carte items and special beverages cannot be charged, meals only.
Dining Hall Offerings
Our breakfast line is open daily from 7:25 – 7:45 offering warm bagels, breakfast pizza, egg dishes, cereals and cereal bars, yogurts, string cheese, juices ,milk, and other beverages.
During break, students have access to the hot line, the snack bar in the dining hall and a bagel cart in one of the foyers. The bagel cart is cash only sales. $1.25 provides a bagel, muffin or cereal bar, along with juice and milk.
Lunch is served from 11:30 – 1:10. Four serving lines are available. We offer 2 hot entrees (one vegetarian), made to order sandwiches in the Deli Line, readymade salads, sandwiches and yogurt parfaits in the Ready To Go line. Students who receive free or reduced price meals can choose their meal from any of the serving lines.
Healthier snacks are offered, including pita chips, pretzels, popcorn, 100 calorie packs, and baked only chips and Doritos. Vending machines in the dining hall also reflect these healthier choices.
