Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)

On Wednesday April 12th, Winnacunnet High School students will participate in the 2023 school-wide administration of the Youth Risk Behavior Survey.  The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) is a national survey, conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) every two years among representative samples of 9th through 12th grade students. The YRBS monitors six types of health-related behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death and disability among youth and adults, including:

  • Behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence
  • Sexual behaviors that contribute to unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV infection
  • Alcohol and other drug use
  • Tobacco use
  • Unhealthy dietary behaviors
  • Inadequate physical activity” (NH Youth Risk Behavior Survey)

The survey is anonymous and voluntary.  In accordance with NH RSA 186, Section 186:11, IX-d, school districts are required to make the questionnaire available on their website and notify parents and guardians at least 10 days prior to the scheduled survey date.  Parents can review the 2023 YRBS questionnaire here:  2023 New Hampshire Youth Risk Behavior (YRBS) Questionnaire.

If you wish to have your student opt out of the YRBS, please use this form: 2023 YRBS Passive Parental Permission Form and submit it to Talley Westerberg.  Forms can be dropped off in the front office or they can be emailed to Talley at twesterberg@warriors.winnacunnet.org.  More information on the NH Youth Risk Behavior Survey can be found on the state website (NH Youth Risk Behavior Survey website) or by viewing this presentation:  2023 NH Youth Risk Behavior Survey Presentation
