Kumi Puzzles should:

  1. Have ten clues that give hints to the assigned vocabulary word’s meaning.
  2. Clues should be meaningful but not giveaways.
  3. Use multi-media when possible (graphics, video, pictures, sound *) Video is optional due to bandwidth restrictions at school.
  4. Your vocabulary PowerPoint should be saved with under the name of the author(s), not the vocabulary word.
  5. The last slide is the answer slide.
  6. Finished puzzles must be emailed (droberts@winnacunnet.org) or put on a labeled CD.

*You can easily record your own voice by using the Windows Sound Recorder found at
Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Sound Recorder.  With this tool, you can record sound and insert it into a PowerPoint slide as a wav file. After recording a sound, save the file to your documents folder, then use the insert menu to place the sound on a slide.

HOWEVER, why do extra steps for the same result. Even easier... Use the insert menu to bring up a sound recorder built into PowerPoint. (I only JUST discovered this.) Obviously, using this recorder is easier than the previous method.

Another option for audio is to find an audio clip on the internet. Yahoo has a search feature that allows you to find audio clips. Try it out. You can also narrow your search options to particular file formats and clip lengths. Search for clips that are less than one minute. PowerPoint is okay with a lot of file types but if you want to play it safe, stick with wav and mp3.
