COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:

We’ll be running our summer Reading Buddies program again this year at the Lane Memorial Library! I’m on the lookout for Teens who are interested in being Big Buddies for this awesome program.  The Reading Buddies Program involves teenagers reading one-on-one with children every week. They’ll read books together, tell stories, play word games, write stories – anything to help younger children become better readers. Reading Buddies runs for 6 weeks on Saturdays, June 30th – Aug 4th,  11am to 12pm. Last Day to register is June 11th. Training on June 21st, 5:00-6:00 pm. If they’ve done Reading Buddies before, they’ll not need to do training again, but they should refresh themselves on the materials. It’s requested that students commit, to the best of their ability, attending all dates and taking the short training course.

We are also looking for teens who’d like to staff the book carts at Hampton Beach this year on Fridays from 10-11:30am, starting June 22nd until August 3rd. We’ll be doing this in conjunction with a Children’s Storytime led by Ms. Wendy! For this program Teens are Ambassadors of the Library who will hand out free books to beach visitors. We only need 2-4 volunteers for this program.

Teens volunteering for the library must be at least 12 years old. To comply with NH Department of Labor Regulations, students age 12 to 15 must complete an Employer Request for Child Labor Form that must be taken to the SAU90 office or WHS office with a parent and their birth certificate. Please give warning to the SAU and WHS administration that student will be coming by to get their forms. The SAU or WHS will then issue a Certificate of Labor that comes back to the library. Those 16 and older must fill out a NH Parental Permission form.

  • LITTLE WARRIORS FOOTBALL NEEDS VOLUNTEERS:  We are looking for volunteers to maintain the clock during our home games on Saturday mornings, afternoons and evenings at Alumni Field.  Some experience would be great however absolutely not required. It would involve keeping score and maintaining the time clock. We also would love to have a few volunteers that would announce the games.  Who tackles who and who has the ball type of thing. A spotter would be provided to give you the names and numbers. We will not have an approved schedule until July however we normally play approx 5 games /home stand and we have approx 6 home stands / season.  Each game lasts a bit over an hour. While we are at it if anyone wants to work in the concession stand we are always looking for takers!!

  • FULL STEAM AHEAD Summer Camp is at Lincoln Akerman this summer. L The dates are July 9th-13th. We are looking for 10-15 student volunteers to help in the different sessions. Camp runs from 9-12 each day (would need to be there at 8:45.  Students that are interested, can contact me by email: Jodi Kriner jodi@connectedlearner.org
