TASC

Summary

The Targeted Advocacy Support Center “TASC” provides daily Interventions and guidance to students who require an added layer of support. The program focuses on establishing strong relationships and positive connections with students encompassed by a focus on social and emotional support to aid them in their daily attendance and academics. The program is an in-school home where students can seek out and advocate for support. In addition to social and emotional support, students receive executive functioning support that allows them to stay engaged with their academics and help establish better communication and collaboration skills with their teachers. The program is structured around privileges and Students strive to stay in good standing within the program in order to have the full use of those privileges. The mission of TASC is to provide students with the structure, support, skills and consistency that they need to be successful in school and beyond. Providing students with experiences that help them build a positive school outlook that aids them as they seek the ultimate goal of graduation.

Student Selection

TASC is a Tier 2 support program for students who require additional support in their daily routine. Students are selected through a collaborative process that involves TASC staff, the Guidance office, and Administration. The selection process is driven by factors such as academics, attendance, executive functioning, behavior intervention and social emotional needs.

Supplemental Support

During the school day students who are placed in the program will have a “TASC Lab” in their block schedule where they will meet daily with TASC staff to receive support. Students receive a pass/fail grade at the end of the trimester based on their attendance and participation. Students who pass receive 1 credit per trimester.

Staff Information

The program is led by a school counselor who supports students placed in the program and acts as a case manager responsible for checking in with each student daily and monitoring their school day routines in order to provide the best interventions tailored to their individual needs while maintaining strong communication with guidance and administrators to ensure that each student’s entire support team is aligned in support of that student.

Placement Inquiries

Parents/Guardians who feel that TASC would be an appropriate support for their child should contact their child’s guidance counselor in order to begin a collaborative process to review possible placement. Students in grades 9-12 are eligible.
